In 2016, a small group of musicians, dads and youth music educators set out to create a series of concerts and showcases that featured the young musicians of Santa Barbara. Eager to carry on the work of so many who have cared for and promoted the youth music scene of SB, they produced several shows at the Pershing Park Bandshell and Skater’s Point near Chase Palm Park.
Under the direction of Marco Andrade, a career music teacher and a homegrown musician, this band of champions was soon adopted as an education outreach program at the Santa Barbara Middle School and awarded starting grants from The Santa Barbara Bowl.
By 2018, Roll-n-Rock 805 was born with the idea that music students and teachers would benefit from always having an upcoming stage to play on to keep their musical development and excitement growing.
But where were these stages? And how could a student or a teacher access these stages if they found them?
It turns out, the answers were always right there! Roll-N-Rock 805 quickly discovered that by partnering with our local festivals like SB Solstice, The Avocado Festival and others, a year-round calendar of quality performance opportunities could be created. It’s easy! The festivals provide the stage and Roll-N-Rock 805 did the rest by booking the shows and providing the instruments and equipment.
So in 2024, Roll-N-Rock 805 became a 501c3, nonprofit corporation with the mission to create and maintain a consistent calendar of upcoming events that youth musicians and their teachers could always check and sign up for the next opportunity to play. That is why we always say, “STAY TUNED!”
It is an honor to support and add value to the many music teachers in Santa Barbara and their tireless dedication to providing quality arts programs in schools and privately. We see your hard work and know the value of having a deadline when it comes to a music performance. We also know the profound, positive impacts that performance can have on our youth. And so, we dedicate ourselves to providing the most opportunities possible!
We also know that there are many, many young musicians out there that are on their own, practicing their instruments, writing songs, forming bands with friends or looking for friends to play with. There are also many kids out there who are ready to perform but don't know where to start. We want to welcome any young musician or group that is ready to take the stage for the first time or the 50th time!
So keep coming back to Roll-N-Rock 805 and STAY TUNED!!
